Signs & Symptoms of Poor Digestion

Digestion is the process of converting the food eaten into nutrients. The nutrients then are used by the body for growth, energy, and cell repair in the body. The process of digestion also involves generating waste present in the body that is to be eliminated. In this article we will discuss about signs & symptoms of poor digestion.

Why do some people have poor Digestion?

Poor digestion happens as a result of infection, stress, bacteria in food, certain medications, or even due to some chronic medical condition.
Some very common signs and symptoms of poor digestion are:
Upset Stomach
It is because the gut is unbalanced. An unhealthy gut causes an upset stomach which causes multiple problems like diarrhoea, bloating, constipation, etc.

Heartburn happens when the digestion has been completed partially, and the digestive juices (acids), make reflux in the body.

Vomiting and Nausea
This happens because of the body’s reflux system where, when the food is not digested properly, the body tries to throw the food back outside.

Abdominal pain
The abdominal pain is caused by undigested food that remains in the stomach. It occupies space and causes to feel heaviness and pain.

Things you can do to improve digestion

Lower stress levels
Get enough sleep
Chew the food properly
Eat slowly
Stay hydrated
Change your diet or diet plans and style
Check for food intolerances
Take probiotics or prebiotics

Foods with high-fibre
High-fibre foods such as legumes, beans, peas, oats, bananas, berries, asparagus, and leeks have a positive impact on gut health.

Garlic and onion may have some anti-cancer and immune system-enhancing properties based on various studies, which are closely tied to some of the primary functions of the gut.

Fermented food
Fermented foods such as kimchi, sauerkraut, yogurt, tempeh, miso, and kefir are great dietary sources of probiotics.

Collagen boosting foods
Collagen-rich foods such as bone broth and salmon may be beneficial to overall health and gut health specifically.

By maintaining diets and including these foods one can improve their digestive health. There are also some lifestyle changes that one would also need to do to decrease the digestive problems one might be face
